Share the Wealth - Professional Development Success at CEFL

It was another successful Share the Wealth Day at the CEFL on February 13th.
With presentation topics ranging from The Importance of Providing Meaningful Feedback with focus on D2L Audio to How many Hats Should a 21st Century Instructor Wear,  there was no shortage of valuable presentations to attend.

Sharing our professional expertise is integral to our growth as educators. It is important to continually expose ourselves to new information that expands our awareness of what it means to be an effective teacher. The intent is that our growing confidence as teachers will in turn contribute to the development of our students' self confidence. The importance of our efforts was reflected in many of the presentations, including the discussion by Marjorie Contenti, Wendy Buck, Penny Marcotte and Lusine Harutyunyan on the realities of post-secondary teaching in a media and digital rich environment. As evident in this presentation, which included some touching words of gratitude by a current CEFL student, we really do have the ability to make a significant difference in the lives of students.

Our value as teachers was also highlighted in Murray Ronaghan, Jennefer Rousseau and my presentation as we emphasized the importance of providing meaningful feedback to students. While we may not always be aware of the impact our feedback can have on students, this does not mean it goes unnoticed. We must continually work to develop our feedback to best connect with the hearts and minds of our students.  As discussed in our presentation, audio feedback can serve as an effective supplementary tool through which students receive a more personal connection with their teachers, leading them to feel valued and further develop their self-confidence.

Thank you again to all the staff for participating, and in particular, to the presenters and planners for helping organize such a successful day of learning.
